A Collaborative Exploration in Denim Innovation
SCYLLA

SCYLLA was a multi-faceted team project that challenged us to push the boundaries of creativity within a defined framework. The project parameters were as follows:
Material Focus: The central material of the collection was denim, supplied through a partnership with CottonWorks Inc., allowing us to leverage their innovative textile technologies.
Trompe-l'œil Technique: The designs were required to incorporate the optical illusion technique of Trompe-l'œil,creating a sense of depth and visual deception.
Brand Selection: The team had the freedom to choose a brand to inspire the collection. We opted for the iconic Jean Paul Gaultier (JPG), known for his daring and unconventional designs.
Drawing inspiration from the mythological figure of the siren, the collection explored darker themes within the realm of femininity. This final project draft encompasses:
Technical Design: Detailed flats showcasing the complete design vision for eight garments selected by the project critic.
Marketing Strategy: A comprehensive marketing plan outlining strategies for reaching our target audience. This includes TikTok and YouTube ads, a podcast feature, and the planning for a launch party.
Celebrity Collaboration: We envisioned Julia Fox as the ideal collaborator for this project. Her bold style, recent collaborations with JPG, and strong connection with the LGBTQ+ community aligned perfectly with JPG's core values and the overall aesthetic of the collection.
Personal Reflection: As a member of this team, I entered the project with a limited knowledge. of traditional design. The experience proved to be a transformative journey. Working alongside a talented group of peers, we collectively explored the realm of denim innovation and imaginary brand collaborations (in this case, JPG). This collaborative approach, under the moniker "Designers with No Name," allowed us to center the project on the designs themselves rather than individual identities.
