The Story Behind the Tee

It was Christmas 2022, and I was dating a musician who was a huge fan of King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. As a student on a tight budget, I wanted to give him something personal rather than buying a generic gift—so I designed and made a custom T-shirt just for him. I can’t say for sure how much he wore it, but the process of making it was a fun.

Breaking Down the Graphic

For the design, I incorporated a ram skull—originally part of my personal brand’s logo at the time—then added tentacles and the wings of a Luna Moth. I was really into the collage/multimedia effect in digital art and achieved that look using Smart Filters in Adobe Photoshop. It was an experimental piece, and looking back, I’d probably take a different approach now, but it was a great learning experience.

I no longer have the original T-shirt flat, but I do have the digital artwork and a few process shots. This project reinforced my love for mixing hand-drawn and digital elements.
